our own solstice vigil, of a sort

Earlier this evening, [livejournal.com profile] keyne's MacBook was playing random selections from her catalog of Christmas songs, when a very distinctive rendition of  "O Holy Night" came on.

[livejournal.com profile] qwrrty: You put that in iTunes??
[livejournal.com profile] keyne: Yep.
[livejournal.com profile] qwrrty: Holy hell.
...
[livejournal.com profile] qwrrty: You're my kind of sick.
[livejournal.com profile] keyne: I think that may be the most romantic thing anyone has ever said to me.

If there is a right time and place to be listening to this song, I think that three days before Christmas when you're frantically wrapping Christmas presents at two a.m. is probably it.

Thanks, [livejournal.com profile] folkmew. We owe you one. (One what, I'm not actually sure.)

You're right. That was probably one of the most romantic conversations I'd heard in a long time. Cause we all know that schmoop comes in rainbow flavours.

You guys rock.

Weirdos.

I listened to it.

I laughed out loud. Tears came to my eyes.

I had to check to find out whether blood was coming from my ears; fortunately, any damage is only psychological.

I have to believe that the singer has no idea how bad he is.

I had to put bleach in my ears.

Fabulous!

We couldn't get the link to play. Somehow, I think I'm glad.

No, I think you should actually hear this. Google "awful o holy night" (http://www.google.com/search?q=awful+o+holy+night) for eleventy-leven other links to the song. Like eating durian or haggis, it is an experience that every human should have at least once.

Ouch.

For the record, haggis isn't that bad. It's the description of haggis that's so awful.

Yeah, truth is, I agree. I had haggis in a three-star restaurant in Glasgow and it turned out to be quite good. Like a very peppery sausage. Confessed to the server that I only ordered it because all of the Yanks back home were ribbing me about it, but that I actually liked it a lot. He answered, "You can tell your friends at home that you beat the Scots at their own game. Personally, I can't stand the stuff."

And, in any event, it is among those dishes that I think all meat-eaters should have at least once. :-)
