Yeah, I used to watch people doing that on Kailua Beach in Hawaii. Pity I never got the time/guts combination to try it, 'cuz it looked like lots of fun, and I'll *never* do it around here. (brrr)

We saw lots of these at Bahia Honda Key in Florida. Looked pretty cool, and not especially dangerous.
