vegetarian snark!

Pimping this out to the rest of my friends list, because I know that at least some of you will want to know about this:

My brilliant and talented friend [livejournal.com profile] lady_mishegas has created [livejournal.com profile] vegetariansnark, for snarking particularly misguided attempts by carnivores to understand what vegetarians eat, like the misconception that all vegetarians dishes must include tofu, portobello mushrooms or gluten cubes in order to be considered an entree.

Go!  Eat, drink and be snarky.

Vegetariansnark meets Carnivoresnark

This is certainly true if I'm going to be eating them. (Eggplant is gross and something with only lentils and/or beans is a side dish at best. What else does that leave, Quorn?)

I don't know what that tells us apart from that as a carnivore you make a really uninimaginative vegetarian :-) Speaking for myself, I would take red beans and rice, a black bean soup, or asparagus-and-barley casserole over Tofu Surprise any day of the week!

(Not that I have anything particularly against portobello mushrooms. But tofu, oh my god.)

If by "Tofu Surprise" you mean "plopping tofu into a dish that originally had meat", then I'm behind you 100%. That's why when I eat vegetarian, I eat Asian. Trust the guys who not only have been cooking meatless for a couple millennia but know how to design a dish around tofu instead of thoughtlessly sticking it where it has no business.

Again, I love a good rice and beans (or beans and rice, for that matter), but if that's my bleeding entree, then I must be indigent, living in a bunker, or a both.

What do you have against shapes of gluten other than cubes? (More seriously, do you not like South Asian vegetarian food?)

Masala dosai tastes so frickin' good, are you sure there aren't ground up portobellos in there somewhere?
