last night's successful food experiment

Asparagus, wrapped in bacon.  Broil, turning once, 5-10 minutes.

I just haven't been able to figure out what to call it.  Some of the discarded ideas:

"Gus in a blanket"
"Pigs With Spears" (in homage to Cows With Guns)
"Achin' Bacon"

Ideas welcome.

That's awful. Absolutely awful. I approve.

"Pigs with spears" really nails it, i think. We harvested some asparagus yesterday, and the largest spear was easily 3cm in diameter.

That's some pretty heavy-duty (or do I mean large-gauge?) asparagus.

"A waste of perfectly good bacon."

Seeing as asparagus is sometimes called 'sparow grass",howsabout "sparrow gras"

Hee! I don't think I've ever heard that one before. :-)

auf Deutsch?

[identity profile] numignost.livejournal.com 2006-03-27 11:25 pm (UTC)(link)

only because German words look so funny:

Spargelspeck
Schinkenspargel

Now that's clever!

Isn't there someplace that makes maki with spam? I'm not sure I want to go there...

I wish I liked asparagus. At the wedding, [livejournal.com profile] crouchback and I had some different food from the others. He had a Ceasar salad, no veggies (surprise surprise, eh?). I had no green beans, because I hate those. So I had "summer vegetables". Which were squash, zucchini and...asparagus. I tried one again (I do this about every year, to see if my tastes changed) and, um, no. My SIL eagerly gobbled them up, since I gave them to her.

Asparagus is one of the few vegetables I've never been able to make myself like. But I discovered even I'll eat it if you hide it in bacon :-)

That's amusing; asparagus is one of the very few vegetables I'll actually eat without (much) protest.
