political snark of the day

Larry Ellison has rescinded the $115 million gift that he had promised to Harvard University, citing Larry Summers' departure as university president.  Observers suggested that Ellison is concerned that with Summers leaving the university, it may lose its reputation for male sexist chauvinism.

I'm sorry I ever argued in favor of his product.

Eh. Ellison is the classic One Good Idea Guy. Oracle-the-database? Awesome. You know what the rest of Oracle's product line looks like if you take away the database?

Two words: Computer Associates.

Ellison's going to go down in history as the guy who wanted to be Bill Gates, but couldn't even manage to be Steve Jobs.

Damn good database though.

I thought he might be reacting to the Warren Buffet gift to Gates Foundation. Maybe Ellison will find a way to give that's more beneficial to those in poverty.

Oh, he needn't worry. It's Harvard, after all.
