When I passed by one of the Cambridge City Annexes yesterday there were a whole bunch of people trying to tie up their bikes to the bike racks outside, but they were full.

I asked, Bicyle Commitee? And they said yes, so I suggested they should get the city to put up more bike racks.

It's much more fun to imagine these bicycles being driven into this state, rather than being parked this way.

Driven? You mean ridden? :-)

That was today?! What's it like on days when there isn't crap coming out of the sky?

Horses are ridden. Vehicles are driven.

Isn't that backwards? By rights we ought to drive bicycles and ride cars.

(and yes, I know where the terms actually come from)

There were actually lots of available racks next to it -- this is in a locked enclosure in the garage across from Akamai. Maybe it was more crowded yesterday? :-)

I remember seeing someone on the massbike list make the same point (probably either John Allen or Tom Revay). It's very persuasive but people look at me funny when I talk about driving a bicycle. :-)

I've definitely seen some other cyclists refer to their bikes as "steeds".

It's a "steed" when you can pass out on it, drunk out of your gourd, and it still gets you home.
