Chocolate Madness
Apr. 25th, 2007 01:27 amI attended the 2007 Chocolate Madness fundraiser for NARAL this evening, joining
omegabeth,
dbang,
aroraborealis,
dancingwolfgrrl and surprise guest
sandhawke. (We also ran into extra bonus surprise guests
bubblebabble and
bitty later in the evening!)
Chocolate Madness is held in the Cyclorama in Boston's South End, where a few dozen of the city's restaurants, patisseries and chocolatiers set up tables with samples of their best offerings.
aroraborealis,
dbang and
omegabeth attended this affair last year, and so had some idea of what to expect. By the time I arrived, they had already made a pass through one sector of the room and Beth was compiling notes on their favorites.
It was hectic, dizzying, chaotic, gluttonous fun. My favorites included Flour's homemade peanut butter cups, with just a little bit of salt on the top to draw out the flavor of the nuts, the "Space" assortment from Danish Pastry House (chocolate truffles and ganaches shaped like asteroids, satellites, moons and stars), and the "Magic Brownies" from The Fireplace, whose "hidden ingredient" made me burst out laughing when I realized what it was.
aroraborealis has a more exhaustive write-up of the chocolates we tried. I could not do it better justice.
My evening began and ended with a brisk 2½-mile walk between the Cyclorama and my car, and wow am I grateful for that! By the time we left I was feeling almost drunk from consuming such a fantastic volume of chocolate, and I saw at least a couple of other people actually staggering on their way out the door.
Huge fun. Looking forward to it next year.
