149 miles: postscript, originally uploaded by qwrrty.

On my commute home today, the left pedal fell off the bike. I knew I should have paid more attention to that squeaking screeching sound.

Good thing this didn't happen on Saturday. This is one repair I was really not prepared to make on the road.

Fortunately it's all downhill from Lexington.

Oh noes. Now you need a new crank arm, as it's likely rounded out from being operated under load while loose. Dang!

Oh yuck, that's an annoying failure to have in the field. Almost as bad as a broken chain if you don't have a chain tool.

(Remember that left pedals are threaded backwards, so you can't replace it with a right one. Got a new crankarm for free once when someone forgot that while working on my bike.)

I'm laughing and cringing at once. :) I'm guessing you got it sorted out, unless you were riding one-legged when I saw you!

That's a longer story. I rode [livejournal.com profile] zsquirrelboy's bike today. I will probably post more about that soon.

Thanks, but I'm not too worried. The cranks are only a couple months old. I'll have them checked out, though.
