Do you, like me, catch a snippet of Tour de France coverage every chance you get? And like me, are you frustrated to see riders whiz past and not have any idea who you're looking at? And, like me, are you a Mozilla/Firefox user?

Take heart, friends, a solution is at hand.

Add a bookmark to this URL:
http://www.letour.fr/2004/us/coureur.oft?service=RaceServer&RaceType=TDF&RaceYear=2004&Language=ANG&PersonName=%s

Then assign it the keyword "tdf".

Thereafter, if you type "tdf" followed by the number on a rider's jersey into the location bar in Mozilla, it will bring up a page with that rider's name, team affiliation and c.v.

It is, as they say, da bomb.

We were in Paris for the Tour one year. Well, it was not the main purpose of the trip to see it but we did happen to be in the middle of it because our hotel was about 100 metres from the stretch of the Tour. It was good fun. :-)

a) imagine the kind of traffic jam you get when you combine Tour de France-caused traffic re-routing with a massive truck-car multiple-fatality collision. Near Lyons, which already has godawful traffic. Ever seen Godard's _Weekend_? Unfortunately that seems to be pretty much my experience of the Tour... Well, the final leg went through Gif-sur-Yvette last year while we were living next door in Bures-sur-Yvette, but we missed it (miscalculated what time they'd go through, alas)

b) if you haven't already, you *must* see _Les Triplettes de Belleville_ Immediately. :)

This is very n33t stuff, truly. But would you please put that s00per-long URL inside a cut tag? 'Cuz it forces horizontal scrolling of my entire friends page. I used to be a common offender in that area myself, but I've mended my ways, so now I'm obnoxious to others^H^H^H^H^H^Hhelpfully spreading the word.

Tnx.

oops!

Does it really do that to you? It looks like something (possibly LJ internal bits) stuck a <wbr /> tag in the middle of the URL text for me, possibly for exactly that reason, and the link is folded across two lines every way I look at it.

Anyway, just curious, not to argue with you. I'll stuff it inside a cut. :-)

Weird. Your fix fixed my friends page, beyond a shred of doubt. Yet when I look at the cut-tag page, I see the behavior you're describing. Maybe it got changed for you when you went back to edit it.

As far as I know, there's no reason not to just write links to things using appropriate HTML (http://www.littlefluffy.com/) in LJ entries, but maybe there's something I don't know. I mean, it's HAPPENED.
