This weekend [livejournal.com profile] keyne and I went to see Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull.  I liked it.  It was fun.  It wasn't the worst of the lot, but frankly it had too much hocus and not enough pocus.

Maybe the most illuminating thing I can say about it is that for me the main attraction was almost completely upstaged by the trailer I saw ahead of the main feature.

This is a teaser trailer for a movie called The Curious Case of Benjamin Button, due to be released in December.  New David Fincher movie.  I had not heard of it before, but when the trailer came on I was transfixed.  The only trailer I can presently find online is in Spanish, but there is almost no dialogue anyway:
My name is Benjamin Button. I was born under unusual circumstances: while everyone else keeps aging, I keep getting younger.
It turns out this was an F. Scott Fitzgerald short story, which was apparently inspired by Mark Twain's comment that the best part of life comes at the beginning and the worst part comes at the end.

It's one of the most arresting trailers I've ever seen.  I can't wait to see the finished result.

I was ooked out by that trailer. It was interesting but scary, and I wasn't sure why. It reminded me a bit in feel of The Time Traveler's Wife, so if you haven't read that, you might like it.

I just saw Crystal Skull and liked it quite a bit. It was exactly right for what it was, I thought, no horrifying crap ending to a nice franchise (Superman 4, ahem). Little N. thought it was derivative, but I have to say, since he's only seen one movie before (Baby Mama) I'm worried that he has no future in media critique.
