My rear tire was a little soft this morning, so I stopped at the Bedford Bikeway to pump it up before starting my ride.  While I was inflating it the tube popped, so I had to replace the tube.

When I got to Lexington it popped again.  I suspected the wheel now, which made me unhappy, since it was brand new: Quad Cycles in Arlington replaced it about a month ago when I started breaking spokes, and replaced it again last week when it started breaking spokes again.  I want to like them because they have a great rep and [livejournal.com profile] srl works there, but this is making me cranky.

Walked up to Massachusetts Ave to take the 62 bus to Arlington Heights to fix the bike, only to get passed by the 11:04 bus.  Grrr.  There will be words.  The lovely and amazing [livejournal.com profile] omegabeth looked up the MBTA bus schedule for me and found that the 76 bus would be coming by at 11:34.  So I waited for the 76 (which arrived closer to 11:45), put the bike on the MBTA bike rack, and boarded.

That was great right up until it became clear that the 76 doesn't actually go through Arlington Heights but bypasses it on the Route 2 service road.  I dismounted when it got to Park Ave, retrieved my bike, and carried the bike (since the flat tire was dragging so badly) all the way over Park Ave. (about a half-mile) to Quad Cycles.

So, with a decent cloth rim tape and a new tube installed -- and a proper road pump and a couple of new tubes -- I finally arrived at work, a little after 1pm.  Thank goodness my group is so understanding.

Anyway, now I'm cranky and incredibly behind schedule and full of grumpage today for buses and bike shops.  I am taking myself out to dinner this evening and to see The Dark Knight.  Anyone else up for it?  I'm thinking the 8pm show at Boston Common but my schedule is flexible.  Assuming I don't get any more goddamn flat tires.
