courage and justice

St. Paul's Episcopal Church, originally uploaded by qwrrty.

A vigil was held for George Tiller in Boston tonight. One of the speakers, who I think was Andrea Miller (executive director of NARAL Massachusetts), told this story:

Tiller kept a basket of glass beads and would invite his visitors to choose one. Half of the beads said "Courage." The other half said "Justice." Confronted with this choice, Miller froze. She told him she couldn't possibly decide between them.

"Well then," he told her, "you'd better just take both. You're going to need them."

Wow, both a lovely story, and a great photo. 'Course I am biased, that's my church.

It's a beautiful church. I haven't gone to church in years, and from the building onwards it was very welcoming and soothing for an apostate like me.
