Moo cards vs. business cards?

 I'm thinking of making some personal business cards.  MOO minicards or traditional business cards?

I find the Moo cards really appealing somehow.  Maybe just because the unusual size feels like something that would stand out.  But my guess is that they may also be more annoying, if they don't fit into a wallet or business card holder the right way.  (And I'm doing this for a little bit of a lark, so that may not actually matter to me that much anyway.)

Anyone used Moo cards and have an opinion one way or another?

Moo's are my card of choice, made from my own flickr stuff. I get them too. They work for me.

I love my Moo cards. I don't know if they're really distinctive as such, when every nerd/hipster here in SF that I know has them, but I love the fact that I can use my own flickr photos on them, and they've got a nice feel and much nicer typography than, say, versaprint.

As far as the size goes: nobody keeps business cards these days. Either they enter you into their phone/computer contact DB within a few hours of getting the card, or they find it in their wallet/purse months later and throw it away after failing to remember who you were. So I don't worry about that. :)

Moocards are the modern version of calling cards.

And they're great for passing to someone you want to have a fling with!

But you might want them for something else. That's mainly what I've used them for :)

I think they're great for personal cards, not for businesscards. for personal business I'd go with vistaprint's free 250 cards. Mine look very professional.

I like having different moo cards for different information. Like some people I want to point to the Boston MySQL User Group, others I want to give my cellphone, still others I want to give details on my book. So it's useful for mix&match info.....but I found that I still never have the right card(s) when I need 'em.

but really I do prefer regular business cards, both giving and receiving.

I've been long handing out something about the size of a moo card that I printed myself on regular thin printer paper. Some people have complained of losing them, but mostly I think they're received as cute. My witty copy helps too. I was just thinking that I want to go two sided and have a QR code of my contact information on one side and human readable on the other. moo may be a handy process of making that happen rather than figuring out printer dynamics on my own.

I need business cards to be standard size because I actually put them into standard holders where I go to find them later. If you're giving out personal cards for other reasons, go to town. I've had people give me nonstandard sized cards and that is annoying and causes them trouble if they are trying to get me to refer to them later. Sorry, everyone, I feel the same way about nonstandard sized paperback books.

this is probably irrelevant to you but I often recommend clients use moocards for tags and labels in situations where they are likely to be handled or come in contact with moisture (restaurants, greenhouse, outdoor events) because of the lamination. the downside is that if you want to write on them you have to use something like a sharpie. but that's worth it to avoid your merch looking like crap cause someone's kids had grape koolaid on their hands.

I am in love with Moo! What I love about them, though, is that I can use my photos on them, and therefore when they turn out really well, I feel like I am as awesome as I have always wanted to be.

I think if you're worried about the size, you can achieve pretty much the same awesome by getting regular business cards from Moo, which still has the perks of good type and flickr integration for photo love.

I used to see the Moo ad/blurb/whatever on flickr all the time, but have never actually seen the cards in the flesh, as it were. Maybe I should make some to supplement/complement my nine-year-old VistaPrint cards.
