I have a bigger problem with the labelling of the elevator buttons in the first place.

"D" stands for "Down"??? Down is not an elevator destination, it's a relative direction. It would be almost forgivable if there were only 2 floors, but if you are on 1 ("UP") you can go down to DOWN or down to L("LOBBY"), so DOWN is not the only possible down. Also, that 1 is "1" instead of "U" for "UP" is not following the same logic of the D button, so it's not only illogical but internally inconsistent.

For me the strange sounding wording of this sign is merely a symptom of the weird button label problem.
