Romney Accuses Sharpton of a Bigoted Remark (NYT)

...what Mr. Sharpton said Monday during a debate on atheism and religious belief.

“As for the one Mormon running for office,” Mr. Sharpton said, “those that really believe in God will defeat him anyway, so don’t worry about that. That’s a temporary situation.”

Romney vs. Sharpton?  I really can't imagine any outcome to this that isn't a net positive for the world.  Have another drink on us, folks.

Assuming you don't mean "in the general election", yes. :-)

You're forgetting one thing: Al Sharpton never loses, even when he does. Al refuses to pay a settlement to a man who he falsely accused of rape? someoene else bails him out. Al runs for Senate, and delivers far less votes than he claimed? Local politicians give him a lot more of what he wants, out of fear that he will unleash riots if they don't. His endorsement proves to be a negative for anyone who gets it? They seek it harder. He runs for President, does far worse than had predicted, proves unable to attract many black voters (or voters, period), gets a lot of funding from Republican party attack dogs, hires a GOP political operative to play a major role in his campaign (http://www.villagevoice.com/issues/0405/barrett.php) and pays himself a salary from campaign funds? They give him a nice speaking slot at the Democratic convention, where runs over his alotted time, causing trouble for everyone who appears after him. Despite his arrogant move, he's still given a lot of respect and is a power broker in the Democratic party.

Al Sharpton, no mattter how stupidly or rudely he acts, even if he does things that are out and out criminal, is never, ever called to account for them.

Romney is going to lose in this fight.

I believe that you are making my point for me. How exactly is this a bad thing?

Maybe it isn't clear, but people in MA _really_ hate Romney. Ever since he was elected he has done nothing but travel out of state and insult us. I'm personally thrilled to see Al Sharpton (who is at least entertaining) picking on him.

I don't find Sharpton entertaining. I find him appalling, and I think he's personally done more to set race relations back in this country than anyone else I can think of, and I also think he's mainly done it for purposes of self-aggrandizement.

Sharpton will walk away from this stronger, and in my opinion, he is far worse than Romney.

I've decided that Al Sharpton is like a fire, and the best thing to do with himi is to starve him of oxygen. Romney getting into it with him will hurt Romney, which is all to the good as far as I'm concerned, but it makes Sharpton a bit stronger, and gives him more influence.
