Pretty much; I was rigging up my sailboat, saw it coming, and promptly unrigged it. Good exercise, I suppose, but it would have been nice to do some actual sailing...

Indeed. Though I usually sit over at NE125.

It's weird seeing a tornado watch in New England:

There was a watch in Worcester County, MA, too, only 20+ minutes south of us. The mile-wide, F4/F5 Worcester Tornado (http://www.ci.worcester.ma.us/cco/tornado/index.htm) of 1953 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flint-Worcester_Tornadoes) killed 94 people in Worcester County; that area (where we're planning to move in the next year or two) is "a relative 'Tornado Alley' for locations east of the Appalachian Mountains," according to the Weather Doctor Almanac (http://www.islandnet.com/~see/weather/almanac/arc2003/alm03jun.htm). Cheering, innit?

That's a fantastic picture.

I hope you're not biking :/ (I'm home -- sometimes early maintenances are handy!)

Hah. I rode directly to Kendall from Carlisle in the morning, when it was beautiful, got a ride from [livejournal.com profile] omegabeth to Natick, and then rode from Natick to Carlisle at 10pm when the rain had returned and the temperature had dropped. It SUCKED. :-)

Ain't it? My favorite part of that view was the white glowing skyline that you could see on the horizon, at the edge of the storm. The phonecam didn't pick it up so well, sadly.

Oh, neat. A white glowing skyline at the horizon in such a photo would be all optimistic and stuff. There could be some inspirational text about light behind the clouds or whatever and folks would be all over it.

See, when you finally get that great spiffy new camera, you can start taking pictures like that and be rich and famous and we can say we knew you when...

That totally made the picture. Without it, it would be "It's late at night. What?" I looked for a shot like that but either missed it, or it didn't happen on my side of thee building. Looks like I should have checked the other side.

Oh, that's lovely! I can't wait to get a decent camera so I can get shots like that of my own :-)

Thank you. It was taken with a Canon SD450 (which is always in my pocket). What kind of camera are you planning to get? I just recently started figuring out what can be done with DSLRs, and am very happy to get to play with my girlfriend's.

I ended up here because of a link from [livejournal.com profile] inseriatim.

Not sure yet but leaning toward a Nikon D50. See http://qwrrty.livejournal.com/tag/camera for background. I can really see the advantage of keeping a mid-range digital camera for carrying around all the time, but I think that for the forseeable future that's going to remain my phonecam. :-)

Good old [livejournal.com profile] inseriatim! the social web draws ever closer.

My in-laws had a tornado come down their street this afternoon (in Westchester County, NY). Didn't wreck any houses, luckily enough, but uprooted all the utility poles so they're going to be without power for awhile.

My father-in-law was driving home at the time and followed it up the street, presumably at a respectful distance.
