It's October.

Where can I get good cider doughnuts in Cambridge?

Go ahead, remind me of everything I'm missing by leaving town on Sunday. Bastard.

Mm-hmmmm. They don't even know what donuts *are* here.

No, no donuts as such, although they do have crullers (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youtiao).

Can you? I thought good cider doughnuts were only available at farm stands...

I'll bite (gladly). What's a cider donut?

It's a plain cake doughnut made with apple cider. You can find them all over New England at this time of year -- but, as [livejournal.com profile] jbsegal points out, mostly at farmers' markets and not usually in the city.

I was going to ask the same thing, and I've been living with him for years :-)

My not-quite-Cambridge recommendation is Ohlin's Bakery (http://www.yelp.com/biz/pjT08ii9kPcpxc4Qji9KwQ) in Belmont, although they sometimes only have them on weekends.

I also just discovered that you can often get hot ones out closer to where you live, at Shelburne Farm (http://www.shelburnefarm.com/) just on the Acton-Stow line.

I wonder if the kendall sq. farmer's market might have them (Thursday).

To continue with the not-so-helpful comments - I can only think of Farmers markets, like others have said. Alas, there are no markets in Cambridge today. There's one outside my building here in Copley Sq, though, with very yummy cider donuts. Sorry I can't teleport some to you.

There is a farmer's market in Cambridge today, actually - at Harvard, next to the science center. I don't think there are supposed to be cider donuts there, though, although the list I have of what's available this week just says "baked goods" as the closest possibility.

Aha! I will check that out and see what they have. Thanks for the tip.

Oooh! Copley is doable! That's, like, a 10-minute bike ride from here. Brilliant!

My go-to for that is the seriously-not-in-Cambridge Wilson Farm (http://www.wilsonfarm.com/") in Lexingtion, which is nonetheless a lovely ride along the Minuteman from the big C. I also highly recommend their orange-cranberry muffins. Make sure also to drop in on the barn and say hi to the llama.

[livejournal.com profile] dbang suggested that off-LJ. It is fortunately almost exactly on my commute to work, which is very useful knowledge for future days when I'm thinking ahead!

As part of the definition of "good cider doughnuts" includes "fresh off the donut machine", probably nowhere in Cambridge.
