welcome to Maine!

M, Q and I drove up to Maine last night, to spend the weekend with catya and shayde at their camp, and to give keyne a much-deserved quiet weekend at home. :-)

Weather is gorgeous so far. Z and Morgan went swimming in the lake for what must have been at least an hour! It was an exercise in frustration for Quinn, who wanted to go in the water but (I think) found it too cold, and so kept getting in and out of the water over and over again. He also kept wanting to get in one of the inflatable boats but refused to keep a life jacket on. Poor guy!

Now the rest of us are making lunch while the boys play frisbee in the front. This afternoon we'll go biking for a bit. I'm going to put Morgan's Trail-A-Bike on my bike, then hook up Quinn's trailer on the end of that. If it works, I'm guaranteed to get a good workout no matter how far we go. :-)

The one I have for Morgan is called an Alley Cat that I bought used off a fellow on the Massbike mailing list. Sheldon Brown says this is a low-end knockoff brand, and I believe pretty much everything he says, but nevertheless it's worked pretty well for us so far. Morgan can pedal along with me (and he really does put in some significant effort), and his bike is on a freewheel so he can coast when he gets tired of pedaling. With this contraption he's ridden with me for 12 miles or more.

I'm eager to graduate him to his own bike with training wheels, but this has made it nice to be able to go riding together for longer distances. :-)

Argh, that's so expensive! Somehow I thought they'd be significantly less than the trailers. *sigh*
