In response to requests, I took a photograph of the picture that Morgan drew in my previous entry:

It still knocks me out.

Just to keep things in perspective, I thought I should relay the conversation we had in the car over the weekend with Morgan about hunting ethics.

"Do people really live in Antarctica and the North Pole and other cold places like that?" Morgan asked.

Yes, we said, they do -- only a few scientists live in Antarctica but there are Inuit tribes that live around the Arctic circle.

"Do they really hunt whales?" he demanded.

Well... we started trying to explain about tribal culture and subsistence economies. (We can be awful at trying to put any concepts into a six-year-old's terms.) But Morgan interrupted:

"I don't think anybody should ever hunt WHALES or FROGS!"

pause. I tried to think of an appropriate response. ("Because they're both mammals?" Uh, no.)

"Because people do eat FROGS' LEGS, you know!" he added.

"This is so going in my journal," I told Ellen.

Six going on twenty-three.
