weekend update
Jul. 13th, 2004 10:54 pmI did not, in the end, manage to pull both trailers behind my bike. Quinn's Rhode Gear trailer is fastened to the chainstay of my bike by a clamp, and the buckle that holds the clamp tight is broken. Grump!
catya was a sweetheart and watched Quinn while the rest of the boys went riding. Now I have to find a replacement clamp, so I can try to build the Frankenbike later this summer and see if I can actually pull it.
Other than that, it was a delightful, delightful weekend. Lots of swimming, playing, relaxing and socializing. Very restful and pleasant. On Saturday night
catya, Z, Morgan and I made s'mores. I hadn't made s'mores since I was about twelve! (Quinn was content to eat the graham crackers. He was clearly skeptical of the way we insisted on sticking the marshmallows on skewers and holding them over the fire.)
I had a beautiful wow-I-love-being-a-parent moment around the campfire.
Morgan: Can we go swimming tomorrow?
Me: Absolutely!
Z: Whatever Morgan wants.
Me: Well, maybe not "whatever" Morgan wants. More like whatever Morgan wants, within reason. You know, as long as it's something I can do for him, and it's not too difficult or unsafe for me to do when I'm taking care of Quinn, then it's okay.
Morgan (nodding thoughtfully): And not scissors.
After
catya left,
shayde and the boys and I stayed on and hung out for the afternoon. After
shayde and Z went out for another bike ride, we all trooped off to dinner at Ted's Fried Clams down the road. Ted's Fried Clams indeed. I will forever think of the place as Ted's Lipid Hut. I ordered the healthiest items that I could find on the menu: a cheeseburger, jalapeno poppers (look! a vegetable!), fried clams and fried shrimp. Maybe I should consider it a feature that the iced tea was unsweetened.
After coming home and packing up, and going for one very last mini-bike-ride with Z and Morgan, I gathered up my clan and drove home, arriving late to find a very beautiful, very happy to see me
keyne waiting.
A divine weekend. Hope to have more like it.

Lando's Pizza in Hudson and Acton, MA are particularly good. and Eli Cannon's in Middletown, CT, where they're served with an orange habanero dipping sauce, and a garnish of a single fresh scotch bonnet.
