topaz: (respect the bike)
[personal profile] topaz
Old Blue, Mr. Moto, the road bike I have been riding since high school and which my father rode for many years before that, is being retired.  I love that bike but I have grown very weary of the many small headaches that are involved in maintaining it.

After a visit yesterday to Simple Living Cycles in Framingham, I am now the owner of a new Schwinn 21-speed road bike.  Pictures to come.  It needs some adjustments to make the fit right but I think it'll work out well.

I think I want to name this bike.  Suggestions welcome.  "Shadowfax" is tempting for the sleekness and the silver and black color scheme, but it seems sort of cliché.  (Given the modest price of this thing, "Bill" would probably be more appropriate if less poetic.)

Ooh! I like Shadowfax, actually. Maybe "penumbra". Griselda? Zelda? Zorba?

What kind of name do you like?

You when to Phil at Simple Living? You total fucking tool. When you live in a neighborhood with local shops, you went to the guy who sells things BELOW his cost so that he can make it up in tax write-off? I'm shocked. And appauled, especially since you're all shooting your mouth off all the time about bikes and community, blah blah blah. You still went to the lowest bidder instead of your Cambridge bicycle collective, your Somerville indy shop (or even the big-shop there), the Boston non-profit youth-and-overseas shop.... incredible.

You sold out your community for a few nickles. I'm so not talking to you anymore, which is why I'm posting this anon. I'm so PISSED.

Is that all I had to do? Hell, I would have gone years ago!

I am blown away by this anon person's logic! I never realized I could not talk to people just by talking to them!

Hell, if that works, I'm running out to Simple Living tomorrow to buy a bike!

Maybe I should wait and see if it really works, though.

You're not all that anonymous when the entry you're responding to has IP address collection enabled and the original poster knows enough about how to backtrack it if he's so inclined.

call it bill. and then you can write a filk for it entitled "my bike, bill" to the tune of "my boy, bill" from "carousel." (i think the real name of that song is "soliloquy.")
