yes, recently we were on the bridge when we heard it blow! my niece & nephew (both ~4) were in the car in front of us and apparently were In Awe.

Yipes! No, this was the drawbridge on Morrissey Boulevard, on Rt 3A in Dorchester.

Yes, probably about 200 times when I was a kid. We lived in Indian Rocks Beach South Shore (try fitting that on a form!) which was on Sand Key in the Clearwater/St. Petersburg area. Only way to get to the mainland was over drawbridges - to and from school, grocery store, piano lesson, etc.

See, coming from Brooklyn I can barely imagine such an event, let alone experiencing it on anything like a regular basis. :-)

It was a bit of a shocker when I heard a horn blow and realize they were getting ready to raise the drawbridge I WAS ON at that very moment :-)
