And when he gets to Somalia, he will find out that, contrary to popular belief among the ill-informed in this country, there are both taxes (not counting zakat and jizya) and government in Somalia. More than one of the latter, sometimes with bunches of them claiming the right to tax the same areas.
When I read or hear claims that Somalia has no government, I sometimes wonder if Europeans during our civil war used to claim that America had no government.
Yes, I did-no actual Tea Party type is going to praise Somalia. I'm just irritated by the "if you think there should be less government, go to Somalia!" taunts-and this is clearly one of them. (There is an area in Africa that I suspect a lot of the Tea Party folks would like (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/8446994.stm), but it doesn't get as much press...possibly because the fighting there ended a while back, and there were only two factions, instead of the dozens in Somalia.)
I was there too! I took a field trip with my coworkers, we couldn't help ourselves. And you're right, it was fun.
As rally's go, it was sorta lame though. I couldn't hear the folks speaking and you couldn't get that close to the stage because of the huge press risers. But it was great people watching! And oh the signs were the best part.
