In other chicken news, Research 2000 has now done a poll for DailyKos on chickens for checkups, and found that a huge majority of Nevadans, 81%, thinks bartering chickens for health care is not a realistic way to bring down costs.

One wonders what the other 19% were thinking.

That's a relief. I wasn't ready to go on the chicken standard, on either end. Where would we put them, for one thing? My ED sees about 100 people per day. I need storage for at least that many chickens? (Leaving aside the idea that if you're complex, you need to bring along more than one chicken. If you need medication? Better bring a goat, too).

Only one per person for simple cases? I'm shocked.

Have you seen the chicken calculator (http://lowdenplan.com/)?

What about an option for a chicken later? Instead of taking possession of the chicken now, enter into an agreement for a killed, prepped chicken on two days notice? Or a dozen eggs every fortnight for two months?

When my dad started practicing law in the 50s, he got paid in strawberries once, and also in beef or lamb.

So I imagine in the past people would barter with doctors. But think about it: a checkup where you are self-pay might be $200! How many live chickens would it take?
