This afternoon at lunch we made a field trip to The Army Barracks, an Army/Navy surplus store in the Back Bay, in preparation for Saturday's paintball tournament. They had lots of excellent stuff, including polypropylene sweaters and neoprene gloves.

And purple camo.

What in god's name is purple camo good for? Combat in a field of lilacs? Hiding in a lollipop factory? My cow-orker Chris suggested that it was for sneaking through a crowd of Barneys. Seriously, is this a real military item or some kind of trendy teenybopper knockoff product?

More like doing battle in a field of irises!

Maybe they confused purple with Mountbatten pink (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountbatten_pink) (which was itself apparently inspired by a "lavender mauve" color)?

So let me know when you want to come and play with purple terror and myself. :) We go rather often. Drop me a line. BTW purple camo is soooooo a fashion thing.

Excellent! After this weekend I'll have a better idea whether I'm better as defense, offense, or bait.

I like the Bomber Girl shirt.

Also the Marine Corps policy one.

We considered getting Bomber Girl for our co-worker Matti, a whip-smart but deceptively quiet engineer. (I settled on getting her the "SNIPER" shirt as more in tune with her personality.)

For militaristic goths, maybe?

I never saw a purple camo
I never hope to see one
But I can tell you anyhow
You should never wear camo after Labor Day.

Well, I would say that it's a Major Fashion Faux Pas. Of course, I would have said that about Urban Camo some while back, and now the New Army Uniform is going to be...Digital Urban Camo. Fine, be that way...

Urban, maybe, given the predominance of gray?

Urban camo apparently tends to be black-gray-white. Now I'm hearing that the purple camo is recommended for dusk/nighttime forest scenarios (see [livejournal.com profile] lhn's post about Mountbatten Pink).

Does [livejournal.com profile] cruiser have any insight here?

perhaps a purple camo causes your enemy to collapse in helpless laughter?

or underestimate you. we all know that purple is the color of tinky-winky and we all know about *him*.
