For the second time! (http://qwrrty.livejournal.com/293584.html)
It's okay, I have more (courtesy of signsoflife and chaiya). But I'm starting to wonder if I shouldn't add a sticker that says "Thank you for not vandalizing my bumper sticker." Or maybe "Crunch all you want, we'll make more!" I don't know.
I'm not sure if putting on an accompanying "Thank yo for not vandalizing my sticker" sticker would encourage vandals, but it would at least let them know they're not being original.
I'm restraining myself from saying something about different political alignments' relative willingness to resort to destruction and violence, because my comment would be born from anger more than truth, but argh. ARGH.
I think it's an attitude of selfish resentment, privilege, or superiority, not really a party thing. We see a good deal of R stickers cut and otherwise vandalized up here in "more neutral" territory. Heck, the state Dems came as close as they legally could to doing it to one opponent's curbside signs last major election. It's an unfortunate attitude that makes one think it's ok to counter speech through vandalism. But I am pretty sure party isn't the link.
(ETA: ...and I am not meaning to imply that you do. :-))
The other day we were driving down the highway and some asshole in a BMW zooms in front of us giving us a thumbs down. WTF? Had to be our Obama sticker.
Everyone knows that vandalizing and otherwise expressing your disapproval for Obama bumper stickers will make him less the president.
That happened to cinnalynn and me! A guy pulled up next to us on the turnpike, honked his horn, and gave us the thumbs down while mouthing "OBAMA!" very clearly.
For at least a MINUTE. Honking and mouthing and thumbs-downing.
In Massachusetts even! We could only think: if every Obama sticker you see makes you do that, wow, you must have a really stressful commute.
I saw a doozy today: three homemade window stickers on the back of handyman's truck that I had the ill fortune to be behind for about 30 minutes. "B.H.O.: Liar", "Barack Hussein Obama is a socialist traitor!" and another I mercifully cannot remember.
I was going to make a comment about the BMW and classism, until I saw this truck, too.
A few years ago I finally started saying to myself, "When you're arguing with a bumper sticker, you've already lost". It's done wonders for my peace of mind.
