Right! For me it's less about the money than the hassle factor: you mean I have to go SHOPPING?

Luckily, catya has an unused trunk rack to lend me until I can install a good hitch rack.

After buying a strap based bike rack, I never felt truly comfortable with it. I never had a catastrophic failure but I didn't feel comfortable and babied it. Eventually I went to a roof rack because I couldn't get a proper trailer hitch receiver for my car. Unfortunately the good roof racks are expensive but I ended up using it for lots more than bikes. The other benefit is that my tandem will go on a roof rack but not most trunk or trailer hitch mount racks.

I've been vaguely planning on installing a roof rack for about a zillion years, but I didn't realize a hitch rack for this car was even a possibility, so that's the route I'll probably be going now.
