Where I come from we call those "hurricane candles".

Hurricane candles are usually six inches or so; most Shabbat candles I've seen have been taper-length. So the question is really whether qwrrty butchered the candle to get it to that length!

I pulled the candle out of our candle box downstairs; no surgery was performed (though I drilled it a couple of inches into the cake). It's what I would have called an emergency candle.
