Well... Alberto Gonzales has been tapped as his replacement (http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&e=1&u=/ap/20041110/ap_on_go_ca_st_pe/bush_cabinet). That'll be one heck of a confirmation hearing.
Yeah, I saw that. It won't be any more brutal than a Supreme Court confirmation hearing would have been, though (for either Gonzales or Ashcroft). And if we have to have Gonzales, I'd rather see him as AG than on the bench.
My money is on both: this time around he'll have less scrutiny (it's a political appointment and limited term) and then next time around it will be all about "haven't we been through this already and found him to be ok?"
