I've read at least ten books by each of these people:

Stephen King
Dr. Seuss
Robert Parker
Janet Evanovich
Isaac Asimov
Piers Anthony
Michael Crichton
Robert Heinlein

A shabby list compared with most of my peers. I don't think I've read ten books by Dean Koontz -- it is hard to remember and I can't distinguish any of them by reading the plot synopses. If I have read ten Dean Koontz books I think I will have to eat my spleen.

Unfortunately, some of my favorite authors haven't written 10 books that I'm aware of and can get my hands on...and of the authors who have written more than 10 easily accessible books which I would consider reading, several are, well, a trifle embarrassing (Agathe Christie and Jill Churchill, among others.)

Embarrassing? I put Piers Anthony on my list! I almost had to put Dean Koontz on my list and you're worried about Agatha Christie? Pshaw!

At least one extremely smart person on my friends list was too embarrassed to include V.C. Andrews, if that makes you feel any better.

Well, OK, they're unashamed mind candy then, not embarassing. (The list I put on my latest entry isn't complete; there are authors who've got 10+ books which I've read which I didn't include or I'd be up all night.)

I was thinking the same thing. Personally, I think if an author's written at least 5 and you've read everything ze has written then it should count.

I gotta go home and check my shelves. Sure would be impressive if I had nonfiction writers on that list. Does it have to be full-sized books or do essays count as well?

I suppose it would be an interesting variant to list those authors whom you've read ALL of their works. The only non-fiction author I can think of (for me) who fits the 5+ category is Bill Bryson. Possibly Carrolly Erickson (I think I've got that spelled right.)

I'd say count only full length books of collected essays. Just to make it more difficult/fun.
