Inspired by [livejournal.com profile] cruiser.

When I was six, I appeared in a television commercial for Peach Hi-C with my father, [livejournal.com profile] rikpierce.

Dad appeared in a couple of TV spots with Jim Murtaugh, and on an episode of The Bob Newhart Show. He also had a part once on Sanford and Son, though I don't know which one.

The Oracle of Bacon declares that Jim, Newhart and Redd Foxx each has a Bacon number of 2.

That gives me an honest-to-god, totally legit Bacon number of 4.

I swear this had never occurred to me before.

Edit: Would you believe my mother's google-fu beats mine? She found a reference to Dad's episode of Sanford and Son on MSN Movies.

Edit 2: My understanding of the Kevin Bacon rules is that you actually have to have appeared on screen with your link. Just like Erdös numbers only apply to people who have published papers with Paul Erdös. So I don't think I have given everybody else on my friends list a Bacon number of 5. Sorry!

You must remember to use your super power only for good, or against people with a lower Bacon number than you.

Oh, I was totally going to go there. But we know he doesn't necessary use his powers for good. Heh.

We used to catalog our friends' Ellen numbers, which described.... a rather different set of relations than Bacon numbers. I guess you would have a Pierce number of 1 on any count, though. :-)

My Bacon number is actually 2--I was on a tour of UC Santa Cruz back in '89, and John Lithgow was on the tour with his son. (John Lithgow was in Footloose with Kevin Bacon).

But did you appear on screen with Lithgow?

Well done, there, laddie! You've gone and promoted all of us to at least a KBN of 5.

Do you have to have appeared in on screen with another person to be connected to them, or can you have had, er, other relations with them? If the latter, I have a Bacon number of 4, too.

I don't think that qualifies, but you should definitely feel free to describe in great detail what happened and why it should count. :-)

No great detail, but it involved intimate contact. :)
He was an extra (with a half-second screen time!) in Wonder Boys, starring a Whole Ton of people who have Bacon numbers of 2.

I was just scrolling through his IMDB entry (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0000102/) thinking, nope, never saw any of his movies, nope, never saw any of his movies, oh wait, I did see Animal House while visiting a friend in Oklahoma back in the day.

That's cool that your dad was in those shows. Do you have much memory of the commercial?

Kevin Bacon is inescapable. Resistance is useless.

I do remember the commercial quite clearly, but that is another story to be told another day. :-)

I think it's really supposed to be at least some kind of published or broadcast work. You know, something that someone else might have seen too.

But oh yes, we could make a.... video. Oh yes.

and then we could show it to people.

all in the interests of my bacon number, of course.

So if we'd videotaped your reenactment of Ilona's story outside TMLMtBGB....
