This meme was going around a while ago.  Someone said that it has to be 17 movies.  Why 17?  I don't know.  You get 13.  Cope.

Some of these ought to be pretty easy.  I expect at least a couple of them to be hard, though.  I didn't pick them to be hard, just to be quotes I liked.
  1. You never fuck me!  And I always have to drive!" -- Drugstore Cowboy ([livejournal.com profile] qnetter)
  2. "Why aren't you popular with the Chicago Police Department, Jack?" -- Midnight Run ([livejournal.com profile] harimad)
  3. "You really are an untidy boy." -- Time Bandits ([livejournal.com profile] stephe)
  4. "No, I didn't say you have character.  I said you are a natural character.  You're an incredible flake."
  5. "That is one nutty hospital." -- Tootsie ([livejournal.com profile] qnetter, [livejournal.com profile] weegoddess)
  6. "I should probably tell you that the reason I'm taking the bus today is that my driver's license was revoked." -- Speed ([livejournal.com profile] badlittlemonkey)
  7. "We zip in, we pick 'em up, we zip out again!  Come on, it's like going into Wisconsin!" -- Stripes ([livejournal.com profile] crouchback)
  8. "All those people killed.  And for what?  For a little bit of money.  But there's more to life than a little money, you know?  Don't you know that? And here you are.  And it's a beautiful day." -- Fargo ([livejournal.com profile] badlittlemonkey)
  9. "We may be through with the past, but the past ain't through with us." -- Magnolia ([livejournal.com profile] creidylad)
  10. "Because you're on television, dummy." -- Network ([livejournal.com profile] harimad)
  11. "I was flying, I ---- of course I was flying." -- The Little Mermaid ([livejournal.com profile] badlittlemonkey)
  12. "You'd make a great poker player, kid." -- The Sweet Hereafter ([livejournal.com profile] qnetter)
  13. "That's funny, I don't... feel drunk...." -- Memento ([livejournal.com profile] redjo)

I'm too scatter-brained tonight for most of these, but a couple I know right off the top of my head:

6. Sandra Bullock, Speed. (Assuming I'm right, can I also assume that's one of the easy ones? :)
8. Frances McDormand, Fargo.
11. Buddy Hackett, The Little Mermaid.

There's a couple more I feel like I should know and will likely kick myself when you reveal 'em. :)

Right on all three!

And yeah, I'm afraid you probably will be kicking yourself when you see the answers to a couple of these :-)

No, but I have to say I hadn't thought about how many movies that sounds like it could have been a quote from. Maybe I chose better than I thought. :-)

#2 - Midnight Run.
#10 - Network.

The Network quote I reasoned out (had to check it online to be sure) but the Midnight Run sourcing was truly odd. I heard Grodin's voice in my head, saying that line (although I was sidetracked by thinking it was Kevin Spacey using his "Usual Suspects" voice) then I had to track it down.

(I Googled a bunch of the rest but that's cheating.)

Well done! Now that you mention it, it does sound like it could have been Kevin Spacey too. :-)

What sort of queer ex-film student would I be if I didn't know #1 was Drugstore Cowboy?

#5: Tootsie...

Was #12 in the book too? It sure sounds very Russell Banks... It's The Sweet Hereafter, right?

Wow, those are hard. And in addition to all the other things we gotta do when next we see each other, there are lots of movies. :) What a great list.

Bully on you for getting all three of them. :-)

Yes, #12 was in the book too. I was actually kind of unhappy about the way that scene was staged, but it was a magnificent line.

Lots of movies! LOTS of movies!

FWIW, I knew that 5) was 'Tootsie' without looking it up; I've just been catching up on LJ and found this post...

'Tootsie' might well be one of my favourite movies evar. The fact that you know it well enough to quote just makes me want you more. Heh.

I spent a while trying to think of a quote from that one that was distinctive and yet didn't quite give the game away. Shame I forgot one of my favorites: "Sex changes things, Michael. Once I slept with a friend of mine -- the next time I saw him he acted like he owed me money."

The fact that you know it well enough to quote just makes me want you more. Heh.

You know what I have to say about that -- just say the word. :-)

Actually, my favourite quote from that movie is: "Good shower? Good shower."

Ok, ONE of my favourite quotes. Oh, Michael, I begged you to get some therapy.

just say the word. :-)

Oh, sure, you say that and I'm all the way over HERE.

Le sigh.
