It was about a 10-minute storm -- about two or three minutes after I took that picture, the rain slacked off very quickly to a modest drizzle, and by the time I got to my car in East Arlington it had stopped entirely. But for just a few minutes around 4:30 it was *very* intense.
That storm looks a lot like the one that snuck up on me 10 minutes after leaving my house on Sunday. I was stuck in a long queue of cars to cross a bridge when suddenly it started blowing and then pouring rain. I had to turn around and drive back ASAP to make sure that my new apartment was not being flooded (due to everything that could be left open being left open because of te 90+ heat in said apartment, of course).
I'm torn on how I might feel about being on a bike in this situation: on the one hand, I wouldn't have been trapped in stop-and-go traffic. On the other hand, I'd have been completely soaked if not drowned or washed away.
I knew that a storm was on its way and I was kind of racing it to get to my car before it hit full force. I lost. Fortunately, I could literally see it coming down the street as I approached, so I had time to get under the awning at the Midas outfit a few seconds before the world ended.
Like I said to tikva, it was a flash storm -- it hit, became torrential in a matter of seconds, and a few minutes later was gone. Totally riotous.
Bumper stickers! That would be awesome. I would be happy to pick up from your mailbox or from you in person. I'll probably be staying in the city tomorrow evening and may be able to swing by Davis at a time that's convenient for you.
